Considering the current situation of both manufacturers this is not surprising. The A350-1000 is powered by the latest generation Trent XWB engines from Rolls-Royce. After detailed evaluation of the Boeing 777X and Airbus A350 Qantas has selected the A350-1000 as the preferred aircraft if Sunrise proceeds the statement read in part. Qantas will order 12 Airbus A350-1000s.

One of the worlds largest airlines is gradually leaving the Boeing world. Qantas also stated that the recovery in business air travel has been stronger than projected. Qantas tentatively selected the A350 as the platform for its proposed ultra-long-haul non-stop flights in December 2019.

Airbus has made its final pitch for Qantas ambitious Project Sunrise project proposing a fleet of A350-1000 jetliners capable of flying non-stop for up to 20 hours from Sydney Melbourne and Brisbane to London and New York. Small business demand has surpassed.

Right now Qantas has the jets to fly the distance nonstop. The finalisation of the deal with Airbus for twelve A350-1000 ULRs is subject to Qantas board approval. While many other airlines already fly the A350-1000 the special Qantas version was to be fitted with an extra fuel tank in order to tackle the globe.

Under the Qantas contract worth an estimated 3bn assuming a discount of around 50 on the A350-1000s 530 million list price Airbus will add an extra fuel tank to the A350-1000 and slightly increase the jets maximum takeoff weight to deliver the 18-20 hours of non-stop flying required for Sunrise routes. That means Qantas will have first class business class premium economy and economy. In December 2019 Qantas selected a modified version of the Airbus A350-1000 to operate Project Sunrise flights.

The Qantas Airbus A350 was set to leap beyond the A380 first class and potentially add privacy doors to create a fully private suite. Qantas has decided against the Airbus A350-900ULR for non-stop flights from Australia to London and New York and is instead eyeing the larger A350-1000ULR which could carry more passengers on those 18-20 hour treks. Its being reported that Qantas will on Monday be placing a firm order for 12 Airbus A350-1000s which the airline will use for its Project Sunrise flights expected to commence in 2025.

The carrier hopes that if the order is confirmed by mid-2022 the first aircraft will be in service in 2025. The airline says that after a detailed evaluation of the Boeing 777X and Airbus A350 the proven reliability of the A350-1000 aircraft with its two years of service elsewhere makes it the preferred choice. 23 hours agoFirm orders for 12 Airbus A350-1000 for Project Sunrise.

7 hours agoQantas Airways has committed to the Airbus A350 for its long-delayed Project Sunrise ultra-long-haul Sydney-New York and Sydney-London flights. In the single aisle category the A220 and A321XLR were chosen under an evaluation called Project Winton. The long-range jets will have a capacity of around 300 passengers in four cabin classes.

To operate on their ultra-long-range flights to London and New York from Sydney and Melbourne. Qantas will revisit Project Sunrise at the end of this year after it halted the program in March 2020 mere weeks before signing on the dotted line for as many as 12 Airbus A350-1000 jets. In one camp there are the travelers who do not mind almost 20 hours in an aircraft if it.

There was speculation that the A350 first class suites may include sliding privacy doors a flourish already adopted by many airlines for not only first class but in some leading-edge business class cabins. Featuring a premium layout the A350 fleet will also be used by Qantas on other international services. Under the flagship plan Qantas jets would fly primarily from Sydney nonstop to cities like London and New York.
